Comment:

 This was also my first approach, but unfortunately it doesn't solve the
 problem.

 Since the return type of {{{lookup(...)}}} is {{{type&}}} the compiler
 will complain if {{{type}}} is {{{void}}}, as you can see if you try to
 compile my example code.
