 It seems the mistake is to use the gcc version to detect the version of
 the library to begin with. However, I cannot find a good reference for the
 macros that good be used to detect the libstdc++ version besides
 [http://gcc.gnu.org/onlinedocs/libstdc++/manual/using_macros.html this
 page]. `__GLIBCXX__` doesn't seem particularly helpful unless someone is
 willing to figure out what those values can be and create a table from
 them.
