 OK, got permission to share our data. As per attachment above, the tar.gz
 file contains the same data serialized by 1_34.1 in several different
 ways: compressed binary, text, xml. Only the txt version of the file is
 readable by 1.53;
 If the txt file is read into 1.53 and the re-generated as binary from that
 version, 1.53 can read its own binary version correctly. However, 1.53
 can't read back in its own XML format.
