 I know at least two projects who have their code written with sync I/O at
 start. They take long time to realize the potential timeout issue. They
 take long time to realize there are no easy fix. They take long time to
 rewrite everything from sync to async I/O.

 I'd suggest to at least warn people in documentation to avoid this trap.
 And yes, a timeout for synchronous functions is definitely needed.
