 How about this:

 a) you roll in your patch


 b) run the test program test_array_xml_archive

 c) verify the malloc problem

 d) trace down the problem

 e) modify your patch

 f) run the serialization test suite and verify it passes all tests

 g) re-submit the tested patch.
