 Specifying different compiler options for different translation units is a
 common practice, I'm not sure what you're arguing for.

 The bug report also mentions that the attributes don't work up until gcc
 4.9. And the bug is fixed proper in 5.1. I do not think mangling the code
 just for 4.9 is worth the effort.
