Comment (by ramey):

 OK - I gather this is not an issue with the serialization as such but
 rather the singleton code which is contained in the library.  I'll
 consider moving it back to the header.

 But the real solution is to just link with the serialization library.

 I'm guessing that codecvt_null is not necessarily related.
