Can I add my plea for this to be reopened, in some form?
Fine. The original suggestion for the form in which this functionality
should be made available wasn't suitable. No problem. But there's clearly
a large weight of opinion that would dearly like to have a timeout
facility on a read/write. FWIW I would like to suggest adding "expiry" to
a socket like it is on basic_socket_streambuf.
What's the correct approach? Create a new issue with a different
suggestion for solution? Create a new issue with a general request for
some kind of functionality?
