Have you looked at www.boost.org/tools/build/build_system.htm?
It's not exactly the tutorial that you'd probably like, but it does
introduce most of the important ideas with examples.

I know :(

We're in a very uncomfortable position right now where we know that v1
is not very accessible but we don't want to invest too much in it while
we work on v2.
