oops, in my mail I used 'bjam' although I tried it with 'jam' too and that's
what worries me (jam being a link to bjam)

poisson:/home/tk/roaming/dev/femtown >jam
-sBOOST_ROOT=/home/tk/roaming/dev/boost
Unable to load Boost.Build: could not find "boost-build.jam"
---------------------------------------------------------------
BOOST_ROOT must be set, either in the environment, or
on the command-line with -sBOOST_ROOT=..., to the root
of the boost installation.

Attempted search from /home/tk/roaming/dev/femtown up to the root
