Could you write a patch? I'd be happy to apply it and will do that quite 
quickly. 

I don't think we have any formal policies about giving commit access (like 
policies used by Apache projects). But basically, keep sending patches and 
one day nobody would be interested in reviewving you next patch because it's 
likely to be absolutely correct anyway ;-) And at that time the question of 
commit access will imediately arise.
