Yes, it's still required. However, the first planned feature of M9 is a better 
model of linking, which hopefully will make this unnecessary. I have a 
proposal written on paper already and hope to post it in electronic form 
later today.

07 is okay. While there were changes to Jam since M7 was released, those 
changes are not required for correct operation of M8, so jam version remains 
the same.
