Pedro, I've tried V2 with and without your patch on Boost regression suite.
Time without patch:

real 1m24.543s
user 1m16.140s
sys 0m1.920s

Time with patch:

real 0m46.220s
user 0m38.210s
sys 0m2.090s

I'd say this is very impressive. I'm going to commit your patch as soon as we 
figure out where to commit it. Thanks a lot!
