I was also having similar problems as Niall, long link times because of
all the template code in my SOs. And I implemented a similar solution to
what is available in GCC 3.4 (can't wait to switch it so I can scrap my
solution). My time improvements are astronomical. It used to be that I
would spend about 45 minutes linking one SO. That went down to less than
5 minutes.
