Are you trying this on the HEAD branch?
I remember having already checked in a fix for this.

But I think didn't yet for the RC_1_34_0.

I used a build requirement that is defined by the serialization library, 
but until my fix this was only used internaly to serialization. I do not 
know if my usage was intended by the serilaization authors, (I guess 
not.) and also did not get a response on the mailing list.

However the fix allows building for vc6, altough it simply will skip 
libraries from build where spirit is not available.
