At least for me, the term "Visual Studio" isn't interchangeable with "Visual
C++". Visual C++ is a part of Visual Studio, namely the C++ compiler and
corresponding IDE integration.
OTOH, as of Visual Studio 2005 (and perhaps earlier), it's not possible to
buy VC++ separately. IMHO the most correct names would be:
Visual C++ 2005 - msvc 8.0
Visual C++ .NET 2003 - msvc 7.1
Visual C++ .NET 2002 - msvc 7.0
Visual C++ 6.0 - msvc 6.0
Don't know how that works for the "general public" though.
