Their contents gets cleared but the folders themselves get left behind.
Disk usage is not that problematic but I ran into a problem when I
tried to look at the exact folder used by a test as its target folder
was hard to find amongst several thousand similarly named folders. :-)))
(I ran the full test suite a few times before :-))))
