I faced the similar problem and posted on boost user a few days back.
Invoking bjam without any options (as mentioned in the documentation)
failed.

However after some trial and error, i figured out that  "bjam link=static
threading=multi" worked like a charm.

I tried but couldn't isolate the offending line.
