Indeed, such a project is way too complex for a single developer. Still,
sometimes it's useful to branch out and try something new. Of course,
the goal can't be to throw out what lots of other bright people have
developed over years. The goal must be to prototype a few ideas, then
engage with the community to see whether this can be worked back into
the project.
At least that's my goal in working on this prototype.

I might indeed, but you still have to spell them out somewhere
(preferably docs, but code would work, too :-) ).
