Weekly update for third week of community bonding period

1. Modified #612 in accordance with reviews shared on GitHub PR.
2. Opened #613.
3. Proposed a sub-optimal first implementation without simd modifications
for 2D convolution.
4. Started working on creating a  benchmark for existing 2D convolution
implementation. Currently, I am having some trouble building files from the
benchmark directory on my system due to probable issues in its
cmakelists.txt. I have informed Olzhas about the problem and we are trying
to find a solution.
