A good rule is: test for the compilers which are widely used plus any
newer versions of those. If in doubt, test for the newer version only.
For gcc, this likely means: test for all versions you mentioned, if you
have the resources. Testing with gcc 4.0 makes only limited sense for
now, since the compiler hasn't been released, yet, and probably still
contains a couple of bugs (unless you want to support gcc development,
of course).
