Sorry it took me this long to figure out what was going on with the
missing files... But after lots of downloads, expanding, comparing,
reading tar & Python docs I figured out that the format I was using for
generating the tar archives was limited in the length of file names and
hence the tar program was just ignoring files that it could not store in
the archive.
So, it's fixed now. Enjoy.
