[Boost-users] [asio] demultiplexing non-socket file descriptors

Hi

Having a look at asio as a possible solution for a cleanup of an
existing app.

It would be nice to extend asio to include non-socket file descriptors.
I realise that this would not be portable to Windows, but does asio
provide extension points to add this functionality, also adding PF_LOCAL
sockets would be handy as well although these could be switched to a
PF_INET implementation with an acceptable performance penalty.

Has anyone experimented with extensions like these?
