Based on the information you've provided I'm stumped.  In fact I don't 
really see how it can posibly fail (works for me).

Only thing I can think of for you to check is that there isn't a 
libboost_regex.a/so from an earlier version of Boost lurking somewhere in 
your lib search path that's being found in preference to the one you've just 
built.
