I did the presentation but there is really no information in the slides. 
Most of the benefit was the verbal explanation (in my head anyway!)

I would recommend you look at the documentation for the library:

Specifically:
http://www.boost.org/doc/libs/1_35_0/libs/serialization/doc/wrappers.html

should be of interest to your problem serializing Blitz++ arrays.
