Philip, I don't know where we stand with mingw right now. Ramey added
- -fvisibility-hidden to the gcc toolset build flags, but I had to remove this at
- -fvisibility-hidden is not supported on mingw and breaks with gcc (code has to
be specially designed to work with -fvisibility-hidden).

Can you test archive compatibility on MSVC or Linux gcc? We're working on mingw but
atm there are a few outstanding issues with it.
