OK, I've found the version histories and the notes regarding supported compilers.  (www.boost.org/users/history)
It looks like VC6 is supported up to 1.34.1, though this would appear not to be supprorted in the ready-built installer from BoostPro.
It looks like I'll have to build it from the source.
