There is a version of mpl::abs here:
https://svn.boost.org/svn/boost/sandbox/SOC/2010/bits_and_ints/boost/integer/static_abs.hppwhich
was done for a library I implemented last year.

I want to ask for the MPL's maintainers to put it on the trunk.
