I know I keep spamming the list, but the last email was pretty long and I
think the key point was buried, which was this:

And this is why I suggest going with the inverse flag:
disallow_interspersed, because then it shouldn't be set from the start.
(That's my option #2, and one of the patches on the bug report.)
