Another key misunderstanding that sounds like has been happening:

If you are on a computer "inside" the network, you cannot access
anything that is also "inside" the network by using the external IP
address. (It's not completely impossible, but routers are normally not
configured to route traffic like that.)

The external IP only exists outside of the network. If you want to test
it, you must test it from outside of the network.

When you're inside the network you have to use the internal IP instead.
