The result of the intersection is:

POLYGON((0.25 1,0.5 1,1 1,1 0.5,1 0.25,0.75 0.25,0.25 0.25,0.25 0.75,0.25
1))

but actually, this needs to be a 3x3 grid of 9 discrete squares.
