have a look at iobind. I used it successfully in the past, but unfortunately

- The homepage http://iobind.sourceforge.net/ is broken (but  
http://sourceforge.net/projects/iobind/ works)

- The cvs version was broken last time I tried

- The sf project page lists 0 developers :-(

It may nevertheless be useful to you, too.
