Yes, excellent initiative Dave/Jeremy/et.al.

I'd be very interested in getting involved as well. The old
MTL is an attractive alternative for linear algebra in C++
except for it's lack of development and failure to make use
of the newer generic programming techniques (to be honest -
it's a bit of a mess :))

It would be great if you could keep us posted about new 
developments. I'll read through the reference part of Jeremys
preliminary work later tonight to get a better idea of what 
you're aiming for.

(oh, and sorry for not making this a proper threaded reply, 
but just joined the list...)
