A short remark:

I am not fond of the spacing:

    format("%1 %2 %3") %1 %3 %5

preferring instead

    format("%1 %2 %3") % 1 % 3 % 5

The first one makes the values (1,3,5) look like positional parameters. I
hope the examples and docs will use the 2nd form.
