Thanks everyone for the explanations about using exceptions for errors
handling. I guess it was just my C-background peaking through that makes me
more used to error-codes. I've always just thought of exceptions as being
more for "low-level OS" or "extreme" errors and not just your normal,
everyday error. But I definitely need more experience in that area. I'd be
interested in further discussion on this topic, but I'll take it to the
comp.lang.c++ newsgroup. Thanks for the clarifications.
