It's old but might be worth a look.


  I prefer a handle based cache. I don't care how many things have a handle
to it, or who references it. If they haven't looked at in after (T) time,
then it may be gone. i.e. The twenty monsters in the closet you haven't
opened may all have the same texture. It makes no sense to keep that
texture, (model, sound, AI etc.) in memory if you can't see any of them.
