The gist of it is that this:

function<void> f(&X::g, px);

is merely syntactic sugar for:

function<void> f = bind(&X::g, px);

which is much more general. The "short form" is very much necessary if you
don't have a bind() thing (frequently requested before boost::bind came into
play), but if you do, most people don't notice its absence.
