Umm...I accidentally clicked Send instead of File | Save on my
last message, which included several tens of lines of code that
didn't do what I wanted it to.  Doh!  I realize that the defect with
the code I posted is that you can't specify the defaults implicitly,
like I was hoping.  In fact, the defaults must be "hardwired" into
the policy adaptor.  I guess a generic policy adaptor won't be
possible until we have a meta-meta language to manipulate
templates with. ;)
