using GCC 3.2. I ran the 'configure' script as suggested by user.hpp. It
passed, generating a new user.hpp, and requesting that I report the results
to Boost.

Thanks for reporting that - can you run the configure script again using:
./configure --enable-test
this will then report the differences between the current config and what it
thinks should be present (you will need to restore the original user.hpp
before doing this obviously), if you can let me have the program output that
would be appreciated,
