Can you submit a bug report to the gcc guys please?  I would rather that
gcc3.4 was released "fixed" than apply a patch that may not be needed in the
end anyway (BTW Dave Abrahams has changed the is_abstract code to work
around another problem, this may have fixed the gcc3.4 problem in any case -
perhaps you can check?).
