Yes, because the default path constructor is checking for 'portable paths'.
Try using the 'native' checking policy instead -- something like:
boost::filesystem::path
p("/usr/lib/gcc-lib/i686-pc-linux-gnu/3.3.3/include/g++-v3/",
boost::filesystem::native)
