   Actually, this isn't true.  we accepted BOOST_STATIC_ASSERT into boost 
quite a while ago. Note that the standards committee is seriously 
considering adding static assertions to the core (see 
http://www.open-std.org/jtc1/sc22/wg21/docs/papers/2004/n1720.html).
