Looking at the message source again (in vi), I also see some really
strange looking characters. For example, certain words and phrases are
surrounded with a 3-byte prefix of { 0xe2, 0x80, 0x9c } and a 3-byte
postfix of { 0xe2, 0x80, 0x9d }.
Of course, this does not explain the other strangeness of the
formatting.
