But it doesnt require that everyone agree.  Others are free
to continue with the current "tightly coupled" system.

The only problem is if the serialization library depends on another
whose author makes an interfacing breaking change.  This
should happen very, very rarely - and in fact doesn't happen
often.  If it happens too often, I'll reduce my dependency
on such libraries.
