The SPIRIT_... branches are really specific to Spirit development and release as
a separate package. I don't remember how up to date the SPIRIT_1_6 branch is;
you can find the state of the art, as far as Spirit 1.6 is concerned, under
tags/SPIRIT_1_6_4 .
