Technically speaking, ASIO's design highly avoids kernel
synchronisation, and on Windows does a very good job of also avoiding
context switching.
I agree the POSIX implementation of io_service is not great, though
that's a pure quality of implementation issue rather than a design
problem. Chris is aware of this problem.
