[units] Problem building HTML documentation from QuickBook sources

Hello, I'm very interested in the Boost.Units library. I've been therefore trying to use the version, which is available from the Boost Sandbox SVN repository (Revision 41778): svn co http://svn.boost.org/svn/boost/sandbox/units boost_units I've no problems using the header-only Boost.Units library in my own small test programs, but I'm struggling to build the reference documentation located in libs/units/doc/. Therefore, I'm currently forced to use the outdated HTML documentation from the mcs_units_v0.7.2.zip archive available from the Boost file vault or read directly the units.qbk source. I'm using Boost.Units together with boost-1.34.1, which is unpacked in a parallel directory: $ ls boost-1.34.1 boost_units on my laptop running Debian Etch: $ uname -a Linux babylon5 2.6.18-5-686 #1 SMP Wed Oct 3 00:12:50 UTC 2007 i686 GNU/Linux $ g++ --version g++ (GCC) 4.1.2 20061115 (prerelease) (Debian 4.1.1-21) After defining the environment variable: BOOST_BUILD_PATH=<absolute_path_to_boost-1.34.1>/tools/build/v2 and creating the following user-config.jam in $BOOST_BUILD_PATH, I was able to build the boost libraries itself, and the HTML and PDF documentation from their Boost.Book and Quickbook sources: #### Begin user-config.jam #### using gcc : 4.1 : g++-4.1 ; using xsltproc : "/usr/bin/xsltproc" ; using boostbook : "/usr/share/xml/docbook/stylesheet/nwalsh/" : "/usr/share/xml/docbook/schema/dtd/4.2" ; using doxygen : "/usr/bin/doxygen" ; using fop : "/usr/bin/fop" : "/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun-1.6.0.00" ; ##### End user-config.jam ##### I have to admit that I don't fully understand yet the boost.build system, but I achieved to create the necessary Jamroot file in boost_units/ (my working copy of the units library). It contains only #### Begin of Jamroot #### use-project boost : ../boost-1.34.1 ; ##### End of Jamroot ##### Then I was able to build the tests in libs/units/test and libs/units/test_headers. All tests in tests in libs/units/test and only the test for non_si_units.hpp fails in libs/units/test_headers. Judging from the #define error in this header, it seems to be expected. But running bjam in the libs/units/doc directory fails after outputting several times: runtime error: file /home/maehne/build/boost-1.34.1/tools/boostbook/xsl/docbook.xsl line 338 element element xsl:element: The QName 'xi:include' has no namespace binding in scope in the stylesheet; this is an error, since the namespace was not s pecified by the instruction itself. There are also a lot of warnings like: warning: cannot find header `boost/units/operators.hpp' warning: cannot find header `boost/units/systems/trig.hpp' Cannot find class named 'boost::units::unit' Cannot find class named 'boost::units::quantity' I've seen on the Boost developers mailing list, that there were previously problems with Boost.Book discussed as in the thread from "[units] Boost.Book problems" from August 2007 <http://lists.boost.org/Archives/boost/2007/08/126004.php>. I also tried to use boost-trunk from the SVN repository (revision 41797). Problem in using bundled properties with transitive closure

Hi I m able to use the transitive closure using simple definition of adj_list as typedef adjacency_list <setS, vecS, bidirectionalS, property <vertex_name_t, std::string>, property <edge_weight_t, int> > Graph; and then calling transitive_closure(g, TC); graph_traits <Graph>::vertex_iterator vi, vend; for (tie(vi, vend) = vertices(TC); vi != vend; ++vi) { file_op << "\n " << vertices_name[*vi] ; } Gives me correct output. o/p :- A B C D Where A,B,C,D represent name of the vertices But when i try to the graph in bundled properties like struct Process { string name; }; typedef adjacency_list <setS, vecS, bidirectionalS,Process, property <edge_weight_t, int> > Graph; transitive_closure(g, TC); graph_traits <Graph>::vertex_iterator vi, vend; for (tie(vi, vend) = vertices(TC); vi != vend; ++vi) { file_op << "\n " << TC[*vi].name ; } Gives me correct output. o/p :- Means in the second case it returns me empty string for the name of the vertices what could be the reason for this. When I define an adjacency_list with vecS for the VertexList and use bundled properties to store attributes, what is the time complexity of invoking operator[] on the graph object? Is it constant-time, logarithmic or something else? In other words, what's the underlying data structure used to store the mapping from vertex descriptor to bundle? [GCC-XML] errors with boost header files

Gccxml does not seem to be able to handle the boost/mpl/and.hpp file. I have the most recent gccxml (retrieved the source tree and built it) and 1.34.1 boost. I was told by GCCXML support that boost/config/compiler/gcc_xml.hpp needs to exist in order for GCXXML to process boost header files and this file does exist. Please see the content of it below. Can somebody please tell me why it's not working for me? Your help would be greatly appreciated. shared_ptr and -> operator

All, I'm replacing some standard C++ pointers with shared_ptrs. I've run into a small problem using shared_ptr with a pointer to member. With a really simple class: class TestObject{ public: TestObject():value_(-5.4){} ~TestObject(); double value_; }; Trying this: double TestObject::*dptr = 0; shared_ptr<TestObject> testPtr = shared_ptr<TestObject>(new TestObject()); testPtr->*dptr = 5.7456; On VS2005, I get an error on the ->*: error C2296: '->*' : illegal, left operand has type 'boost::shared_ptr<T>' This line is fine: (*testPtr).*dptr = 5.7456; Can anyone tell me why the compiler isn't converting boost::shared_ptr<TestObject> to a TestObject* through shared_ptr::operator-> ? I can live with dereferencing the testPtr, but I'd like to understand what's going on. Damien

boost::bind upgrading from 1.33.1 to 1.34.1 problem, part2

Hello, Thanks Eric and Peter for the help with my previous question. Now I have another question. 1.34.1 does not allow me to compile the following code (it was fine on 1.33.1): struct CNode {void GetName(){}}; int main(int argc, char **argv){ typedef std::map<int, CNode> TPNodes; TPNodes Children; std::for_each( Children.begin(), Children.end(), boost::bind( &CNode::GetName, // Problem here boost::bind(&TPNodes::value_type::second,_1))); return 0; } I get this error: error C2440: 'argument' : cannot convert from 'const CNode *__w64 ' to 'CNode *const ' c:\src\boost_1_34_1\boost\bind\mem_fn_template.hpp 35 The code works if I have a map with pointers, but if I have instances then I have the error. It looks like I get a const value which was fine when a pointer was used. The question is how do I use algorithm on maps when I want to use only key or value? Boost & Singletons?

Hi, I was wondering if the boost library had a class that I could derive my classes from to declare a singleton. For example: class MyClass : public boost::singleton<MyClass> {}; Something like that. I noticed there's a singleton.hpp in "boost\pool\detail", however this seems like an odd place for such a common and useful class. I'm actually a bit scared to use anything in a 'detail' folder, as usually (at least to me) that means private code or implementation details (not to be used). Is there a singleton type class in boost to help simplify the process of creating a singleton? Thanks.

shared_from_this from constructor

Is there a way to call shared_from_this() from a constructor? It seems like a bad idea. Since the object is still being created, it would be difficult for anything to have a shared_ptr to it. And that violates a documented precondition of shared_from_this(): "There must exist at least one shared_ptr instance p that owns t." If it's not possible or just a bad idea, how about a note in the documentation at: http://www.boost.org/libs/smart_ptr/enable_shared_from_this.html to say something like: "Calling shared_from_this from a constructor will not work, since there is no shared_pointer which owns the object."? -dan
