Boost release 1.40.0 is available
by Beman Dawes 28 Aug '09

28 Aug '09

Boost release 1.40.0 is available from SourceForge: http://sourceforge.net/projects/boost/files/ As always, the .7z and .zip files have Windows line endings, while the .bz2 and .gz files have POSIX line endings. Please download a file that has line endings appropriate for your platform. There are no new libraries in this release, but lots of libraries have been updated and had bugs fixed, including: * Accumulators * Asio * Circular Buffer * Filesystem * Foreach * Function * Fusion * Hash * Interprocess * Intrusive * MPL * Program Options * Proto * Python * Serialization * Unordered * Xpressive Enjoy! -- The Boost Release Managers

[1.40, regex] compile problem in boost/regex/v4/cpp_regex_traits.hpp
by Christoph Duelli 28 Aug '09

28 Aug '09

when compiling with gcc 3.3.3 (with #ifdef BOOST_REGEX_BUGGY_CTYPE_FACET active) at line 737: There are 16 entries for an array defined as size 14. This does not compile for gcc 3.3.3 at line 827: there is no char_class_horizontal (or vertical). At least I found none. Might be a typo and perhaps should be char_class_horizontal_space instead? If that is no reason for a 1.40.1 (I could understand that), I'd be grateful for a confirmation that the line 827 issue is correctly fixed by adding "_space". Best regards Christoph

geodetic library
by DE 28 Aug '09

28 Aug '09

is there a need for subj? i implemented very accurate direct and inverse geodetic problem routines (as well as geocentric (X, Y, Z) to geodetic (B, L, H) conversion) i used bessel's method to derive the formulas 6 iterations for both direct and inverse routines is enough to converge to full double precision (16 digits) however the formulas themselves provide 9 significant digits that is 1cm accuracy regardless of range (i.e. range = 1m..20000km) to get acceptable accuracy, say, 2 iterations is enough (or even 1) however there are several other aspects uncovered (area and perimeter, projections, etc.) -- Pavel

[spirit] spirit2 PDF docs.
by John Maddock 28 Aug '09

While trying to build the PDF's of the spirit2 quickbook documentation I've noticed a few SNAFU's: 1) In the release branch, the docs don't currently build: quickbook.quickbook-to-boostbook ..\..\bin.v2\libs\spirit\doc\msvc-9.0\debug\threading-multi\spirit2.xml Generating Output File: ..\..\bin.v2\libs\spirit\doc\msvc-9.0\debug\threading-multi\spirit2.xml d:/data/boost/branches/release/doc/pdf/../../libs/spirit/doc/qi_and_karma/../../example/qi/mini_xml3.cpp:133: error: Template Redefinition: tutorial_xml3_grammar IMO there's no need to fix this for the release, but if there's an easy fix I can apply locally, then I'll include spirit2 in the PDF doc build. 2) In trunk, there are some unresolved internal links: Making portrait pages on A4 paper (210mmx297mm) Error: no ID for constraint linkend: spirit.qi_and_karma.abstracts.attributes. XLink to nonexistent id: spirit.qi_and_karma.abstracts.attributes Error: no ID for constraint linkend: spirit.qi_and_karma.abstracts.parsing_and_generating.the_tokenize_and_phrase_parse___function. XLink to nonexistent id: spirit.qi_and_karma.abstracts.parsing_and_generating.the_tokenize_and_phrase_parse___function Error: no ID for constraint linkend: spirit.lex.lexer_tokenizing.the_generate_static_function. XLink to nonexistent id: spirit.lex.lexer_tokenizing.the_generate_static_function 3) I've also committed some minor fixes to the Jamfiles in Trunk to get the PDF's building from within doc/pdf OK: see https://svn.boost.org/trac/boost/changeset/55798/trunk Cheers, John.

Re: [boost] [interprocess] shared_memory_object design

Christian Henning escribió: > Hi there, a colleague of mine is questioning the design decisions in > the shared_memory_object class. The assignment operator and copy > constructor are private. Why? Because the class own a unique resource just like a file. Is fstream copyable? No, movable (in c++0x) just like shared_memory_object. What should the copy constructor do? Also the constructor takes a type > instead of a value as the first parameter. In his eyes it makes it > very inflexible since the creation of or attaching to shared_memory > area has to known at compile time. Ok, this is debatable, because with move semantics you can write: shared_memory_object obj(create? shared_memory_object(create_only, ...): shared_memory_object(open_only, ...)); or shared_memory_object shm; if(create){ shared_memory_object tmp(create_only); tmp.swap(shm); } else{ shared_memory_object tmp(open_only); tmp.swap(shm); } Best, Ion

different matrix library?
by DE 27 Aug '09

27 Aug '09

behold! i've put my lib in the vault/linalg there are sources as well as documentation (zipped html and CHM file) if you are interested you might try to use it or even perform some performance testing (would you mind to post results in that case?) i tried to write documentation so that any user would be able to figure out what's going on and use the lib without difficulties if you'd run through it i hope you get the image of my proposition any constructive comments are welcome -- Pavel ps do anyone know how to kill directories in the vault?

While looking to build PDF's for trunk, I see the graph lib now has quickbook docs, but the [import ../examples/whatever] should all be [import ../example/whatever] In order to find the files. Cheers, John.

[rfc] cppgui
by Felipe Magno de Almeida 27 Aug '09

27 Aug '09

I've been working the past two years, on and off, unfortunately more often not, in a GUI library. But I have gotten back to it. And I wanted to make it usable. I believe there are some great things in it. This library has a named parameter interface which is extensible by the backend implementation. I've been working on a QT port, which have been fairly easy so far. My intention is to rework some parts of it, finish most widgets and the surface concept I've been working on and submit to review to boost. But I wanted some ideas on the controller interface and whatever might be useful too in improving the design before submitting. The library is in http://www.assembla.com/wiki/show/cppgui There's a svn and trac there that I use. The library requires the boost/funcitonal/factory.hpp library reviewed and accepted (?), which is not yet part of any boost distribution to compile. You will also need fusion to compile. I've tested with GCC 4.4.0/4.3.3 with QT and win32 with visual C++ 9.0. But should be pretty portable, including qt in visual C++. The gtk code does not compile :(. There are some very primitive documentation in the site, and some examples in the svn. Thanks in advance, -- Felipe Magno de Almeida
