[interprocess] problem compiling

Hello, I'm trying to use boost::interprocess in my code. The environment being used is S60 armv5 WINSCW (RVCT compiler) . Since it's a header only library, I presumed including it in my USERINCLUDE (i.e placing interprocess inside my local \inc), would suffice the purpose. But there were some dependencies e.g. some include files were not to be found. I managed to solve the interdependencies by including the missing files locally. But when I try to use the sample code for managed_shared_memory (given on the doc page for boost::interprocess), it's giving me errors regarding template-instantiation in ..\inc\boost\interprocess\mem_algo\rbtree_best_fit.hpp. To be precise, the error that I got is attached in the text file. It's too verbose to be written here. The usage is that my main() consists of the following #include "boost/interprocess/managed_shared_memory.hpp" #include "boost/interprocess/containers/vector.hpp" #include "boost/interprocess/allocators/allocator.hpp" int main () { using namespace boost::interprocess; //Shared memory front-end that is able to construct objects //associated with a c-string. Could somebody please point out what am I missing? Is there something else that I need to do in order to use boost::interprocess? [serialization] impossible to extend xml_iarchive?

Here I am again...still trying to add a seemingly trivial bit of functionality to xml_iarchive by following the directions at: http://www.boost.org/doc/libs/1_39_0/libs/serialization/doc/derivation.html In my last post (http://lists.boost.org/boost-users/2009/06/49028.php) I was getting several unresolved externals from basic_xml_grammar<char>. I figured I needed to simply explicitly instantiate this template like the others. The first problem with that is that basic_xml_grammar.ipp isn't in boost/archive/impl/ like the other ipp's are. It's in serialization's source directory, which I, like most people, had thrown away after building Boost. So after I copied that file into my own codebase so I could include it and explicitly instantiate basic_xml_grammar<char>, I then got a single unresolved external complaining about basic_xml_grammar<char>::init_chset() not being defined. After some more digging, I found that that particular method is defined in basic_xml_grammar.cpp which is also in serialization's source directory. Even after all that, I'm still getting some other linker errors that nobody here can figure out after hours of trying, but the aforementioned issues alone suggest to me that it isn't currently possible to extend xml_iarchive by following the instructions in the documentation. -Kenny Riddile

I have a class that override two different new operators. This give an "ambiguous call to overloaded function" error message in VisualC++2005. Example on code that will give error: class A { public: void* operator new(std::size_t); void* operator new(std::size_t, void*); }; int _tmain(int argc, _TCHAR* argv[]) { boost::has_new_operator<A>(); return 0; } I think that the has_new_operator could be updated with a new check_sig3 test. Where the new(std::size_t, void*) is moved to the new check_sig3. The serialization code use the has_new_operator to decide if it should call T::new or ::new. But what should happen if only the operation new for arrays is overridden? If T::new function only should be called when the operator new(size_t) is overridden then the has_new_operator function should be split into three different functions (ex. has_new_operator, has_new_operator_array and has_new_operator_placement)? - Runar

version conflicts: is there a solution?

Hi Everyone- This has been discussed before (http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.comp.lib.boost.devel/180008) but I think my question is along a slightly different line so I thought I would ask about it. Let's say I want to compile and distribute a library (without the source), and I happen to use some boost header-only libraries as an implementation detail in some of my functions. None of the headers associated with my library include boost headers; it's purely an internal detail. Now, it seems to me that users of my library will still have to be aware of the fact that I used boost in my implementation -- specifically, if they happen to use different versions of the same boost libraries in their code, then the ODR is violated and the behavior is undefined. I realize this isn't a boost-specific problem (it would affect any library of template functions), but I am wondering if there is a boost-specific solution already worked out? Has anyone thought about this? It seems to me that in this case, what would be ideal would be if I could do: #define BOOST_NAMESPACE some_unique_namespace_for_boost #include "boost/algorithm/string.hpp" BOOST_NAMESPACE::shared_ptr<void> x; //or whatever Then I can insure there are no ODR violations and I don't need to bother users of my library with the fact that I used boost at all. Other than the sheer annoyance of having to go through all the boost code to use this macro, is there a strong downside to this approach? Alternatively, I could try: namespace { #include "boost/..." } But I don't know, could this work? Or are there boost headers that rely on fully qualified references like ::boost::algorithm::whatever? Building boost against uClibc on arm machine

Hello all. I'm trying to cross-compile boost for arm machine running linux with uClibc. Most of the libs are built ok, but some of them (including one of the most important to me: thread) failed. I've run into some problems with the Graph library as there is a lot of code that splits iterator ranges. If not, then a good bit of the code needs to be altered and possibly some of the iterator macros deprecated. These cases are only problematic if the retained iterator is later compared to an iterator from another range. The fix is simple. One only needs to retain both members of the iterator pair. I am willing to provide a patch if it is agreed that the current code is wrong.
