[shared_ptr] gcc 3.2 build broken with current trunk

The shared_ptr (enable_shared_from_this) patch from yesterday breaks our gcc 3.2 builds. Below is a fragment from a Boost.Python unit test (but not requiring Python) and the error produced by gcc 3.2 (Redhat 8.0). gcc 3.2.3 (Redhat Workstation 3) has the same problem. Is there a way to restore compatibility with the old gcc versions? Thanks! Hi, Thank you so much for your comments. I looked at the CodeProject article you suggested, and it had a pretty much similar idea. I would like to reformat the source code according to the boost coding standards and integrate with boost.interface. I believe this is possible because "The Code Project Open License (CPOL) 1.0" http://www.codeproject.com/info/cpol10.aspx seems to be compatible with the boost licence*.* IANAL: Somone please help me to verify this. I'm looking forward to hearing from you. In case of 4267 it seems like the return type should rather be changed. As for others, most of them come from interlocked macros and probably could be disabled as well, although the casting pointers to integers bugs me. I haven't checked the 1.35 RC branch but if the issue persists there too, I'd like to ask to make the release warning-free too. I guess, a couple of #pragmas won't break anything. And I have some other notes: 1. I found BOOST_STATIC_CONSTANT macro usage in some places. On VC 7.1+ it expands into a static constant member which has to be defined in a namespace scope despite of that it's a compile-time constant. Nevertheless, these members are not defined. I know that MSVC just works without it but strictly speaking this is not C++ compliant. Since these constants are members of non-template classes I would suggest to use enums instead of the macro. 2. VC 8.0 and later has _ReadBarrier and _WriteBarrier in addition to _ReadWriteBarrier. These could be used in interlocked_read.hpp. 3. There are tabs in win32/mutex.hpp:21 4. There is a potential memory leak in win32/thread.hpp:480. If the push_back throws the thread object is leaked. Remarkably, the pthread version is safe since it uses auto_ptr.

Hi, is there any reason why shared_ptr does not have a ctor that takes an auto_ptr and a deleter? I also wonder if there is a resource leak if I just write: auto_ptr<T> a = ...; my_deleter d = ...; shared_ptr<T> s( a.release(), d ); Regards, Daniel

Boost 1.34.1 and Visual Studio 2008 compiler

Hi All, I am recieving a "Unknown compiler version - please run the configure tests and report the results" during the compilation of our projects. I am aware of why i am receving this output. However, i would like to know if tested are being done for this version (1.34.1) on VS2008 Compiler or/and if is there a document describing known issues with this compiler. shifted_ptr crash quest & intrusive_list revival

Greetings: I have uploaded a cleaner version of shifted_ptr including better intrusive containers (intrusive_list & intrusive_stack) stripped from redundant information. The containers were initialy designed for shifted_ptr but proposes an interface that could be extended from ground up. Indeed, in this concept containers have no idea what the element_type is; it only knows about pointers to nodes. The responsability of knowing about the element_type is forwarded to the iterator, usualy using within a loop, which is eventually dereferenced appropriately. Having stricter containers could have been there but this is primaly a tool that is adapted to shifted_ptr and removes a lot of forward declarations because the type needs not be known. Secondly right now I would be happy to learn segfault are detected using shifted_ptr. Please provide simple case scenarios and I will trace the problem.
